Single Review: Towhead- Stranger in the Mirror

‘Stranger in the Mirror’ is the newest single from Towhead, one of the bands currently featured on Jaxx Radio’s Emerging Playlist. Towhead are a four piece from Yorkshire, consisting of Penny (Guitar and Vocals), Emma (Drums), Kieran (Guitar) and Richard (bass). The band have been going since 2016 in their current line up. They released their debut album ‘Facing Up’ in 2019 which received airplay from the likes of BBC Introducing.
‘Stranger in the Mirror’ is my first encounter with Towhead, and the single is an alternative rock romp with a slight pop tinge. The first band that came to mind in terms of comparison for me is probably Paramore, although arguably Towhead somehow seems more down to earth to me. The lyrics are relatable, about low self esteem and identity crisis. The ultimate message is about just being yourself and not changing who you are to meet others expectations.
